2016-17 COACH BIOGRAPHIES
HEAD COACH – Craig Sherman
Coach Sherman enters his first year at Silver Creek as both the head coach and the coach of hurdles. He has coached track and field for over 30 years at the middle school, high school, collegiate, and professional levels. Coach Sherman has coached 51 high school All-State performers and 11 collegiate All- Americans. His high school teams have won a state championship and finished second three times. Two of his collegiate teams have been national runner-ups. During the past ten years, he has had two individuals who have qualified to the Olympic Marathon Trials, one who qualified in 2008, 2012, and 2016.
DISTANCE COACH – Roger Powley
Coach Powley enters his first year as the track distance coach. He debuted as the Silver Creek Head Cross Country Coach this past fall leading the Raptors to their first Conference and Regional Championship wins and a fourth place finish at the Colorado State Championships. He was named Northern Conference Male Coach of the Year. Coach Powley is a social studies teacher at Westview Middle School, where he established the cross country program and led his boys teams to 3 consecutive state championships and the girls to state champion and runner-up finishes.
SPRINT COACH – Jacy Riel
Coach Riel enters her first year as a Raptor track coach. She is a science teacher in the high school and served as an assistant coach in cross country. Coach Riel comes to Silver Creek from Mountain View high school where she was named CHSAA High School Cross Country Assistant Coach of the Year in 2014. Coach brings 9 years of experience coaching sprints and distance. She has had State Championship relay teams in the 4x800m and 800m Sprint Medley.
HORIZONTAL JUMP COACH – Anne Torkelson
Coach Torkelson coaches the horizontal jumps and assists with sprint events. This is her second year at Silver Creek and her 8th year coaching Track and Field. She has coached jumps, sprints, relays, and distance events both here in Colorado and her home state of Nebraska. She competed for Morningside College in Iowa, specializing in the high jump, 400m dash, and various sprint relays. Coach Torkelson was an All-American High Jumper in while competing in college
HEAD THROWING COACH – Brian McGee
Coach McGee enters his fifth season as the throw coach. He is the Business Education Department Head at Silver Creek High School and the defensive coordinator for the Raptors football team. Coach McGee brings 12 years of track and field coaching experience, five as a head coach. He has had 28 state qualifiers, 8 All-State performers and one State Champion.
THROWS COACH – Shamaine Knectel
Coach Knectel participated in track and volleyball at high school in Wendover, Utah. Volleyball led her to Utah Valley University where she played for two years as a defensive specialist. She has coached throws, mainly discus, for 8 years. Two of her sons, Shayler and Brock have held the Silver Creek school record and her daughter, Teagan, is currently ranked the second best all-time Raptor female discus thrower.
HIGH JUMP COACH – Amy Anderson
Coach Anderson, a former high jumper at Niwot High School, where she was a 2 time State Champion and still holds Niwot’s school record. She attended the University of Colorado and cleared 5’10.5” in competition and 6’0.5” in practice. Coach Anderson coached three years at Altona Middle School and is in her 3rd year as the Raptors high jump coach. She has coached her daughter, Rylee, to two consecutive Colorado 4A State Championships.
